A vast feeling of happiness permeates Montreal.
It has got multicolored skyscrapers, a historical area and a lot of public
places providing entertainment. For eight months
of the year it is cold and white. Decorated with snow, the willow trees near
the ponds are absolutely stunning, and snowy
Parc du Mont-Royal is a frozen beauty. Montreal celebrates a number
of events with motley festivals which include ice sculpting,
barrel jumping, skating, culinary competitions, light shows, pop concerts
and a free breakfast at dawn. You can explore
Montreal on a bike; there is a day of free entrance in the museums
and even complimentary buses to take the travelers from one place to another.
Hotels there remind of cheerful hostels and luxury inns.
Rooms have rustic spirit like Russian style wood-beamed ceilings and
small fireplaces. In the morning, your breakfast will include
chocolate croissants and omelets. There are warm
bus stops like little cabins. Christmas in Montreal is spectacular – the magically
white buildings, the street lanterns and the merry Christmas trees,
the piles of snow, ice skating at the Old Port, basically enjoy the glorious Canadian winter.

Montreal is terrifically romantic. After all, it is the city in
which Elizabeth Taylor married Richard Burton with such passionate,
intensity and turbulence. Fool! –she said to him on the
set of Cleopatra in 1961 – “Don’t you see now that I could have
poisoned you a hundred times had I been able to
live without you!” Montreal was the city in which their sophisticate and
debonair romance started with white flowers adorning the beautiful hair of the bride.
In case you are in the mood for love, you can cuddle in the
botanical gardens, especially the wonderfully relaxing
Zen garden where there are butterfly houses with hundred of living
butterflies, which fly around and sometimes perch upon your
shoulders. The most generous of Montreal hotels serves afternoon tea
in the spring, featuring blood orange marmalade,
petites fours, fresh fruit and the world best teas. In some Montreal hotels,
visitors get a complimentary glass of wine served with cheese
in lobby bar, while listening to live jazz on Thursday night. If you are
looking for sweets for your sweet – you can get cupcakes,
or treats by the local chocolatier, with cardamom, honey and pepper.
In the bath complexes, you can swim in a pool with jets and a
waterfall, there is a steam room smelling of eucalyptus oil, or you can nap
in a sling-back chair in the hallway. You can trek the small mountain,
called Mont-Royal and experience the twilight after the sunset.
In some of the streets you can forget what year it is – they carry the
spirit of the Old World and transfer you to the 18th century.
Carriages pulled by horses roam Montreal, and the buildings are really
old-school. On the main square you can buy posters of Montreal.
The kings of bongo gather in warm Sunday mornings in the
Parc Mont-Royal for an amazing percussion show and mercilessly
wake up the whole city. People roll out of bed to be present,
and never complain. In the afternoon it’s a tradition to stop by and lie
flat in the grass together with everyone else.
